Obtaining your NIE Number
The NIE Number (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) is a foreigner’s tax identification number and is needed in Spain to do any of the following:
· Open a Bank Account
· Apply for a Mortgage
· To Pay Taxes
· Buy, Sell or Insure a Property
· For Employment
· To Start a Business
· To register with Social Security
· To apply for a Driving License
· To Buy a Car
Any resident or non-resident foreigner with financial affairs in Spain MUST HAVE AN NIE NUMBER. The process of application is very easy, usually made with a legal representative or translator. The application can be made at any police station that has a foreigner’s department, or (Oficina de Extranjeros, in Spanish. Documents Required
· A Completed Application Form (Solicitud de Número de Identificación de Extranjero y Certificadoes (Form EX-15)
· A Stamped Receipt from the Bank of the Payment of Fees
· An Identitiy Card or Original Passport and a Photocopy
· Two Passport Photographs
